What about going all out in the room? Put in some chair rail moulding, paint the bottom, and then wallpaper the top half of the room, including this. Don’t wallpaper over it so you can’t access it, but rather wallpaper the box separately so it’s covered completely but still functional.

I have a pic over mine. First I put a cover over it with hing painted same as wall. I then added a pic to blend in. Mine is right behind a door as well
