Great lineup at home last night

Had some friends over last night as an excuse to open some bottles I’ve been excited about opening. Life is too short and you can’t beat the reactions when people try Yquem for the first time!

Notes are from memory and not super formal. I admittedly am not the most elaborate or eloquent when writing them so have done my best here. Cheers everyone!

2015 Domaine Les Monts Fournois Champagne Grand Cru Blanc de Noirs Montagne Verzenay – Delicious. Balanced, toasty and red fruited. Perfect start to the night. Very fine mousse and quite expressive on the nose.

2024 Extradimensional Wine Co. Yeah! Heart and Hummingbird Brosseau Vineyard – very interesting mix of 43% Chenin Blanc | Roussanne | Marsanne | Viognier (on skins), 42% Chardonnay, 15% Grenache. Completely crushable. Super fresh watermelon, strawberry and floral notes. Just fun but Also a serious wine with depth.

2018 Keller Kirchspiel – First GG Keller. Like drinking a laser beam from a hollowed out lime at a gas station. Very long finish and incredibly precise. My WoTN

2024 Nicolas Carmarans Aveyron Maximus – first time trying anything from aveyron or made with Fer Servadou. Great chilled. Crispy and crunchy berries with a slight herbal note. As it warmed up it got less enjoyable.

1970 Domaine de Chevalier – Can’t believe how much life was still left in this bottle. Plenty of fruit remained alongside the advanced tobacco, leather, and earthy notes. Noticeable plum and cherry that were not completely stewed. This could have been 15-20 years younger. Great color too. Such a pleasant surprise. Funny to drink immediately after the Aveyron lol

2015 Arnot Robert’s Clary Ranch Syrah – Definitely still a lot of life to go for this wine. Even on day 2 I didn’t feel it was fully open (I had some the night before with dinner). Herbaceous and dark fruited and a little spicy. Great with charcuterie.

2020 Andremily Slide Hill Syrah – huge wine that was rich and opulent. I expected to enjoy this more. Very very good but for whatever reason wasn’t hitting the way other Andremily has for me in the past.

2015 Yquem – yeah I mean fucking amazing. Saffron, honey, pineapple, peach, spice, burnt sugar, finish that lasts for years. I’m always slightly nervous opening Yquem because it truly is a special wine to me but Ive never been let down. First time with 2015 hope not the last.
