Marques de Murrieta
Rioja
2021
Finally found a Rioja that I haven’t got a bone to pick with. It’s well done, elegant and a pleasure to drink.
Nose:
Balsamic as soon as the bottle opened. Fruit heavy. Black cherry, plum & some cassis. Quite overripe. Raisin vibes are there but it quite pleasant.
Definitely some red fruits providing a nice freshness.
With air, the fruit blows off. Oak is super, simple & expressive. Baking spices & dusty Cedarwood (combined with the cassis gave me juicy Bordeaux vibes). Surprised I couldn’t pick up any Vanilla knowing Rioja.
Palate:
Dark fruit is present in abundance. Black cherry, plum & balsamic. Spices are there and definite clove.
Long, lovely & elegant finish which is spicy. Defined black pepper shows here also.
Medium body, fine tannins & medium+ acid.
Well balanced wine that I can’t fault compared to other Rioja’s I’ve tried recently.
At €27 this is a definite buy again.
Cheers 🍷
