
I've only ever had newer Sauternes—wines that were very light and straw-colored. This one was dark and tasted of sultanas or maybe even Christmas pudding, but it wasn't cloyingly sweet. It was a really lovely experience. We just served it with some brie and gravlax. I realize foie gras is probably the right thing to serve with it, but we did the best with what we had… in any case, it was very nice.
