The story of Chateau Saint Georges began in the Roman Empire.

France didn't exist back then.

Where the chateau is now placed – there used to stand a Gallo-Roman villa.

Throughout 2 millennia, the Roman villa transformed into a winery and survived countless crises – medieval times, philloxera, French revolution, wine commercialisation and others.

I had the pleasure to visit it on 2 seperate occasions as a winery videographer in Bordeaux region.

Also taste the wines!!

We tried their traditional oaky merlot-heavy Bordeaux style blend from 2016 – great for BBQ evenings, if you ask me.

Still quite fresh fruit taste to it, which surprised me, as 9-year-old wines tend to shift more towards the jam fruit taste.

But also, what I love about this winery is that they keep the traditions.

Currently old-style rosés, with quite dark red colors (actually called clairet) are fairly rare to find as they are not so popular with the modern pink, almost transparent color wines being in trend.

Clairet used to be a Bordeaux staple.

Chateau Saint Georges offered a selection of 2 clairets with different blends (pure merlot; merlot and cab franc blend) and a more modern style rosé.

It was really cool to see the difference in acidity and the nuance of each different style.

If you ever come to the Bordeaux region – I highly recommend visiting Saint Georges. It's what Bordeaux used to be.

I've also made a mini documentary on the winery that you can find here:
