Domaine Jules Desjourneys, Omar, Viogner, 4,021 bottles, 2020, 12% abv.
Nose: very herbal, boiled pork, feint hints of cream, milk comes out, light alcohol on deeper inhalations. An herbal milk concoction. Already a bad omen.
Palate: medium to full body, entry is thick but almost flavorless, but subsequent sips introduce light acidity, mid palate showing citrus, bitter stone fruits, indiscernible oak elements, metals sich as nickel and copper, body feel is developing, back palate has light to medium citrus, mostly milk, a bit fishy, skillet fried pork chops, some strange metallic flavors. It's like malo-actic fermentation went bad. Or just bad grapes? What do I know, I just drink the stuff.
Finish: short, dry, chalk, more fishy with each sip, a vinegar and worchester sauce mix, like licking a copper penny, alcoholic apples, actually mostly alochol.
Vernacular: nose is closed with herbal and oak elements. Full body, medium acidity, medium oak influence, a bit tanni, medium to high minerality, medium alcohol, not lively. Finish is short, dry, higher acidity, more alcohol.
The frustration continues. The weirdest Viogner I have ever tasted, and not in a good way. Either I completely missed the train, or all these online notes are lies. I would lean towards a bit late, opening a 2020 "Beaujolais" Viogner in 2025, even if it's at 12%. Got this for KRW₩67,000, which is about USD$46, in Seoul, South Korea.
