I’ve run into a bit of a layout problem… I basically have no space on either side of my bed for traditional nightstands.
But I still need the essentials:
- a light for reading
- somewhere to put water, tissues, earplugs, etc.
Right now it’s not super functional, so I’m thinking of doing something with shelves around/above the bed instead.
I’d love something that:
- feels intentional (not like a workaround)
- is practical for everyday use
- still looks good
Has anyone dealt with a similar setup? How would you design the bed head or shelving to replace nightstands?

Does the desk fit anywhere else?
wall mounted lights. slim shelf above headboard.
Twin bed.
Basket or similar dumping ground that sits on the desk and gets moved when you need the desk cleared then put back after work in the traditional bedside spot on the desk.
Move the desk down the wall. If that’s not an option can you position it at the end of the bed? Check out this unit – looks like it may meet your needs.
