Another weekend… it’s been three weeks since I sent my manuscript to the TA, and honestly, my mindset now is just “whatever.”
I picked up a bottle of L’Aide Mémoire 2020 all the way from Germany, and after asking AI, it suggested the drinking window starts around 2025 and that it’s better to drink it soon—so, why not? One more excuse to open a bottle 🐶
This is a Pinot Noir from Jura, one of the classic cuvées from Domaine Bornard. I chilled it in the fridge for about an hour before opening. On the nose, there’s a very distinctive mix of woody and spicy aromas, with a hint of leather gradually revealing itself over time. On the palate, the acidity is quite pronounced, while the tannins are light. You can taste notes of plum, blackcurrant, a touch of smokiness, and even something like dried plum (ume), with a subtle mineral thread running through it. After about three hours of air, more cranberry and cherry flavors start to emerge.
I do feel like this wine really needs food—drinking it on its own feels a bit too “lean” (in Yunnan dialect we’d say gua). Pair it with something like grilled beef skewers, especially with some fatty pieces, and it would be absolutely perfect
