2 Years Later… From Sad to Not Bad

So two years ago I posted asking for help nailing down the ideas for freshening up the front of this shabby rental (image 1). We thought the dark with canna lilies would be fun (image 2) so after 2 years it finally looks like… (image 3) So how did I do?….

I bought some planter boxes from auction, lined them with corflute posters from political election candidates and the occasional alcohol promo (it gets hot here & I didnt want to bake the plants roots) bought a can of exterior paint cheap at Aldi & went over all the front trim as well. A friend patched the front with some charcoal mortar & I sprayed my cream coloured letterbox with yellow paint.

Planting was with Tropicanna Canna lilies, underplanted with Persian Shield, ornamental sweet potato & a few random coleus. I'd like to get some blue in there somewhere but havnt found the 'right' plant yet.

Bonus: when the door is open during summer, the light coming thru the canna leaves in the morning is like a crazy jumble of stained glass!!
