I need some help, I am looking for some ideas to add some personality into this space. These tiles are not our style but we can’t afford to retile.
I was considering painting the trim, but the texture might make it look too strange. I was thinking of painting the wall a forest or sage colour, using black grout paint on the bottom tile and brass fittings and ALOT of plants.
Any other ideas I haven’t thought of.
Thank you 🙏🏽

Let me be the first to say that this trim is awesome and retro, and you should keep it as it is!
I like the idea of some form of a littler greenish paint on walls but I’d get samples to paint small areas to see how well it meshes with the accent tiles.
I don’t have experience in grout paint/dye so curious as how that turns out.
Definitely would not paint any tile, it never turns out how you hope. Tile color is baked on so painting over does look good.
I’d probably take the trim colour right up the walls. Then repeat in towels and bath mat etc
Do not do what you are thinking of doing. Forest green or sage will clash horribly with the trim color. Black grout paint will look tacky.
Your best bet is to embrace it until you can afford to redo it all.
Match a paint color to the trim color – get it exact. Then go 2 or 3 shades lighter for the walls. Add your plants. Add in thick luxurious towels in a clean white to give the space a spa feel.
Keep to a silver tone for the faucets and such – a brushed nickel would look great and give it a classier look than the current chrome. Brass will look nautical – it would work if that’s your style, but if you don’t like the fishes, you probably don’t want nautical so don’t go there.
I kinda love it.
Paint the top half of the room a lighter shade of aqua than the tiles
Lean into the fish / aquatic theme with some cool wallpaper. Add orange and navy blue accents to elevate the teal “fish” trim. Swap out all cold chrome tapware and hooks for brushed nickel or brass. Add a nice off-white textured roman shade to the window

I agree with leaning into it!! Even if it’s not your style, it will look better than hiding it. I think the easiest thing to do would be to color match the wall paint to the tile.
I like the tile. I’d freshen everything up by bleaching all the grout and making it look super clean. A vintage or Moroccan rug/runner, black toilet seat cover, and some simple but stylish towels maybe in a cabana stripe.
Honestly, I’d lean into a complimentary color like coral. Do not lean into a fully “themed” nautical bathroom, it will come off too juvenile.
