Hello everyone. I have bought around 50 bottles of red wine from the 70s and 80s. I have a couple of questions.

I live in an apartment and don't have a cellar. Should I put them in the fridge or in a closet?

I believe the previous owner had them vertically in a cellar. Should I store them vertically or horizontally?

Does it depend on each brand\year individually?

Do I need to be careful about opening them?

Should I post more pictures?

I appreciate any tips you can give me.

Thanks

You may have bought a lot of red wine vinegar. If they have indeed been stored upright for an extended time, the corks have dried. Evidence by the low shoulder fill in the first pic. Corks over 15yr may crack or  crumble in good care, so these will likely crumble to bits. If you have an ah so, or Durand, maybe sample to see if you hit the lotto

First and foremost, You need to be very careful when opening, if the previous owner stored them vertically there’s a chance the cork might have dried out
Second, having 50 bottles, I’d open one every other day if not every day. Having so many I see no reason to not dive into them right away. Life is short and you can’t tell which are still good / died out already
