We just bought a beautiful old Victorian. On the first floor, between the main staircase and the coat closet, the original owners had a very nice desk (which they took with them). I think it looked nice, but we don't need a desk here — we're going to make one of the 2nd floor bedrooms into an office/library.
The space looks very empty without the desk there, though. Any recommendations for how best to use this space?

I would put a bench with a mirror over it.
