It's a cool rainy night in SF for the second day in a row so I thought I'd turn to Syrah. This is probably the best Syrah I've had outside of the N. Rhone in a lighter bodied cool climate style. Fits the evening perfectly. It reminds me of some of the better Northern Croze Hermitage I've had that is less concentrated and more aromatic/finesse driven. This Syrah has medium plus aromatics that gained notable intensity with a day of air – Crunchy red and dark fruits (dark cherry, dark raspberry, blueberry, bramble) and then smoke, meat, game, pepper, fern, iris, toasted wood, and leather. On the palate this is balanced by elevated acidity and tannins for a syrah w/ a silky texture and supporting an extended finish.
