Fascinating wine. I enjoy red wines made from
aglianico – I like the strong tannins and structure of the “Barolo of the south.” But I’ve never before had a rose made from this grape – much less one made in California.
The wine is the color of rose gold – almost copper – and strongly pigmented for a rose. The nose is full of strawberry, but there’s also an earthy leathery note and something floral as well. On the palette, there is bright acidity and a hint of the tannic power of aglianico despite only having a rose-level of skin involvement. The strawberry is joined with a candied cherry flavor at the start, but the finish turns savory and almost smoky.
I’m not a huge rosé fan, but I found this to be delicious. I think I got it from a last bottle marathon many months ago and only bought one bottle. I wish I had gotten more.
I don’t like the clear glass they chose, but it doesn’t show any signs of light-strike damage.

Love Aglianico but never had a rose made from it. Sounds great and not sweet at all.
