The durian is perhaps the most controversial fruit in existence. People describe its smell as gasoline, onions, and a whole lot of things in-between. There is truly nothing like it. And yet, for millions of us around the world, it is a delicious, creamy, complex delight.
There is understandably very little content out there even daring to attempt to pair the durian with wine. What I've gleaned so far is that it might benefit from a sweet white wine like Riesling. But I'm curious if any of the pros here have thoughts?
All I had on hand when I was snacking on durian this past weekend was some Broadbent Vinho Verde, everyone's favorite ~$8-10 bottle. It actually wasn't bad! But I feel we could do even better.
