The 2013 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Meursault Les Perrières is a show-stopping white Burgundy that straddles the line between fresh and ripe flavours, resulting in outstanding complexity. It’s the kind of bottle that makes you immediately start hunting for more to stock the wine fridge, just for the comfort of knowing another is waiting when the urge strikes.

The first night, I poured a glass from the Coravin to pair with a chicken pot pie, and it may have been the best food and wine pairing I’ve ever managed at home. I popped the cork the next night and finished the rest of the bottle.

Aromatically, the wine moves from tangy green apple and lemon into richer notes of baked custard pastry and vanilla. There are even subtle tropical hints, with pineapple and melon peeking out in the background. The minerality really shines here too, with a saline note on the finish that keeps drawing you back for another sip. High acid, medium body, long finish.

It’s drinking beautifully right now, though I’d recommend giving it at least 30 minutes of air before diving in.

I see Lafon, I upvote. Maybe my favorite white wine producer (that I can mostly afford).
