My couch is broken and I need a new one. I was leaning toward the denim color on the left in the first photo, but am wondering if it is going to make the orange of the floors pop too much. The more muted chenille swatch is runner up on the right. I can’t afford to change all of the wood in this room to match the floors. Including other potential colors in the last slide.

I got a dark blue denim color in a velvet. My thought process was blue denim goes with every color. I have no regrets. If you have pets I’d recommend a velvet as the hair can’t get in between the tight weaves. I had a chenille type fabric previously and it was a pain if no pets then forget what I said.

The denim is going to look good – blue and orange are actually complementary colors, so the floors will ground the sofa rather than fight with it. It’s a surprisingly intentional pairing when the blue has enough depth, which denim does. The concern about the orange “popping” is understandable but in practice it tends to feel warm and cohesive rather than chaotic.

Seconding the velvet suggestion if you have pets. Chenille pills and traps fur; velvet in a deeper color is much more forgiving long-term. Your cat sounds adorable on the preview by the way.

If the floors still feel too prominent once the couch is in, a rug in warm neutrals (natural jute, tan linen, warm ivory) layered between the two can soften that contrast without fighting either the floors or the sofa color.
