We installed the countertops and my wife wants to do the backsplash with the same granite. The designer thinks it will be too harsh and stand out too much and take away from the calmness of our white kitchen and calm cabinets. She suggested we do a soft tile. My wife had always wanted to do the granite though but is afraid maybe she is right but can't tell. The first 3 pictures are what our kitchen looks like currently. The next 3 are what Chat GPT thinks it will look like with the granite countertop.

Maybe a white subway tile? I agree the granite that was chosen is very aggressive for a backsplash.

If it’s been your wife’s dream and she likes these mockups, do the granite. I’d personally agree with your designer and think it feels too heavy . A light colored tile would be nicer. What are the floors going to look like?

The granite as the backsplash is feeling really busy – I definitely agree with your designer here. You could go with a light tile like they recommended, but if your wife is craving something a little more bold you could consider pulling one of the tones from the granite like a dark grey and finding a tile like that. What are you guys doing for the floors? You’d be surprised how much of an impact the flooring makes and you should definitely consider how it’ll look as a full room with the flooring in. I’d also recommend putting in a dark-coloured pendant light above each of the windows to help pull in the countertop if you’re not going dark elsewhere!

Also, love your cabinet choices haha, I’m actually about to remodel with a very similar look (just a slightly darker wood base)!

As a professional, listen to your professional. A tile backsplash is timeless. The full slab look is trendy now, but it will absolutely date your home.
