Decanted at 12:30pm, poured about an ounce. Going on tawny, rather transparent (expected a deeper body), muted nose of cherry, raspberry, mint, orange peel. Was tight, as expected. Left it alone for a couple hours; at 2:30, not much had changed except a little smoke, nutmeg, and thyme showing up, with a nice whiff of springtime violets.

It's 5:30 now, the tannins have mellowed, it's opened up a bit. The red fruits are less forward. I'm getting some nice purple plums and blackberries, a bit of mushroom, a hint of licorice.

This is a nice wine, but it isn't one I'll get again. For $120 USD, there are others I like better. I'm just a tad disappointed: the finish isn't compelling and it just doesn't seem as well-balanced or complex as I like at this price point. I'm not sophisticated enough to know what it's lacking–or if it's just me who is lacking.

You can see the rest of the cork in the bottle. Was Ah! So much a tribulation!
