I’ve had this couch for like a month. I knew this would happen but thought it would take longer.
The first slide is what it looks like, second is what it’s supposed to look like.
How can I get it back (or close to) soft again, instead of matted? Is there a good way to take care of these kinds of couches?

Unfortunately, that’s what happens to this kind of fabric. Body heat, friction, oils, dirt, etc. cause the plastic fibers to stick together and flatten out.
There’s not a lot you can do to bring it back to the way it looked when it was new. You could try lightly spraying it with an upholstery cleaner like Folex and scrubbing it gently with a soft bristled brush. Then brush it out again after it’s air dried to fluff and unmat the fabric. Kind of like cleaning a giant plushie.
You can steam it lightly and then after it dries use a cheap, bristle brush on it. Here’s the thing though, every time you do this it will lose fibers. The best long term solution after the initial steam and brush is to use a couch cover over the areas you will sit and rest arms.
