We’ve had a couple tumbles in the last week. So I’m going to add a runner to this set of stairs so my little aging pugs have the confidence to use the stairs again.

The runner will match the rug on the second floor which is a light grey wool rug. I just don’t rly know how wide it should be. Should the runner be centered with …

* the width of the stairs that extend past the banister (you can see it sticking out on the button step.)

* the first lowest white banister that cuts into the stairs

* the black rungs that run the length of the stairs, or

* the width of the space at the top of the stairs

Width of the wooden stairs are 38 inches and we are also debating between 27 and 29 inch wide runner.

Any advice would be appreciated – thanks all !
