Hi guys, gals and pals!

We recently moved and our living room needs a rug. I'm wondering if we should fill the space, do a smaller rug in the middle with the feet of the furniture resting on the edge or something else like rearranging the furniture?

We have found a rug we like from Ruggable (any thoughts about the company are welcome) and I'm worried the design will be covered if we go larger. Also the layout of the couches do create an entry point to sit down (highlighted in red). Is it better to have the carpet extend out or to keep it contained to the middle?

Any ideas would be appreciated! Also what do you think of the space so far? It is a work in progress. Thank you!

For rugs under furniture, the classic rule is all furniture legs on or all legs off – not halfway. Based on your layout, I’d go with a larger rug that gets at least the front legs of everything on it. This anchors the whole seating area together. If you’re worried about covering the pattern, just make sure there’s good rug-to-floor contrast so the edges show the design. The entry point you marked is totally fine – rugs don’t need to stop before walkways.
