Just popped this '09 Sweetwater and it is singing. Deep gold in the glass. The nose is all lemon oil, toasted hazelnuts, and a hint of matchstick. The palate is incredibly creamy, the barrel notes strong but integrated, and the acidity still has a little zip to it. I'm not sure I could call it balanced, but it's multipolar in a very pleasant way, if that makes sense – never boring on the plate despite being nearly 20yo cali chard.
