Hi there, hopefully this is not too daunting of a "new to wine answer my questions!" post, but I'll try to make this is a simple one.
I had never tried wine, I'm not much of a drinker.
I've always wanted to travel across Spain or Italy and drink red wine.
I tried this bottle here (gift from a friend, not my picture) and absolutely loved it.
I'm hooked.
I've tried 2 other Rioja region wines and loved them too. I then ( at the recommendation of a "wine friend") tried Josh Cellar's Merlot, and needless to say I really didn't like it.
Now, I'm obsessed with wanting to know why I had an almost immediate preference.
Looking to the variations in boldness, notes of wines from these regions (I'm assuming all using tempranillo grapes) which direction of boldness in red wines should I go?
Or, should I buy 1 bottle from each and go from there, although that can get costly. I have expensive taste.
I've had some people tell me I'd only like lighter boldness like Pinot, Rhone, or Sangiovese.
I've seen other sources say that if I enjoyed tempranillo grape wines then I should go towards Malbec, Cabernet, and Port wines? Taking it all with a grain of salt.
I've always looked at Wines like Cigars & coffee, tastes to be honed in over time with a broad variation in methods and flavors, so hopefully you all can provide some input on where you would take your next steps in regards to learning red wine tastes.
Thanks!!
