Opened this the other night at dinner with some friends. It did not disappoint at all! I let it breathe for a few minutes but did not decant. After sitting for about 11 years, it had some very unique characteristics. On the nose, it was straight canned green beans. I know that sounds weird, but it’s true. It also had some leathery notes as well as tobacco and some bell pepper. . On the palate, I got dark fruits (mostly black currants and some plum). I also picked up on a bit of vanilla and a balanced earthiness. We were having charcuterie and trying several different wines throughout the night, and I noticed that after eating a blackberry and sipping this wine, it tasted like straight tobacco, which I thought was really cool. Overall, very happy with the results and am now a bigger fan of Carmenere. Such a unique varietal IMHO.
