Bruzzi Vineyards is located in a special location in a historic Arizona unincorporated community tucked away in a valley of ponderosa pines and cedars. The soils are heavy with granite and slate, and the smell of the soil and trees hangs in the air. This is one of my favorite places to be since I was a kid, but this is my first time visiting this vineyard. I was impressed that this little community vineyard is producing such lovely, not only drinkable but quality wines. The floor was classy but not stuffy. Our server was knowledgeable and had great table-side manner.
The Wines:
Vidal Blanc 2024- was very light and crisp on the palate, very easy drinking table wine. Off-dry, notes being pear, green apple and jasmine. Not overly complex.
Mischievous 2024- their rosé, a blend of Vidal blanc, games and petite Sarah. It was delicious and I do not typically like rose. Smooth tannins, balanced acidity, off-dry. Notes were grapefruit on the front with jasmine and slight red fruit notes to finish.
Zinfandel 2023- a great representation of a zin. It was bold and ripe fruit and smokey and complex. Would go great with a steak for sure. Also surprisingly good. Off-dry with notes of blackberry, plum, black pepper, licorice and smoke.
Devious 2024- their red blend which was smooth and very drinkable. Even tannins, rich in flavor, good acid. Nice color as well in the ruby to almost garnet. It is a blend of grenache, Syrah and mourvedre. Notes were plum, raspberry, strawberry and spices.
Syrah- which is not currently on their menu but will be soon. Very fruit foward with balanced sweetness. I would still call this one off-dry, with smooth tannins and good acidity. This one had legs for days and was a rich purple color. Notes of blackberry, cherry, plum and violets.
Glamorous 2023- their dessert wine which is made with their Vidal blanc in the ice-wine method. It was sweet and straight up tasted like concentrated grape flavor, with notes of honey and apricot. Tried it with a pickle and it made the pickle a bread and butter pickle, it was delicious.
We also had a local tray that featured house made pickles, jam made from their Vidal blanc grapes, Arizona summer sausage and fresh bread. The server was making fresh scones in the back for a private party later on and brought us one on the house. It was the best scone I've ever had. This place was scenic and so relaxing. The whole property is licensed so you can take your wine around to view the vines, and the have llammas and goats and a pig out back to go say hello to. I will be returning.
