Adrien Renoir Champagne Grand Cru Le Terroir NV

A slight pink hue in the glass. Very fine pearlage, low pressure. Lots of red berry and black tea with some lemon and oxidative notes. Rich and lively. A hint of ethyl acetate and pronounced volatile acidy. Not a fault but rather a stylistic choice. Balanced and lively on the palate. Good length. An atypical expression of Champagne but delicious and interesting. Lots going on. Would try more from this producer. 93.

    Philippe Pacalet Meursault 2022

Chrystal clear, golden with green highlights. Gorgeous nose. Packed with lemon, pineapple, pear blossom and minerality. Hints of apricot and sweet oak. Beautifully balanced and textured on the palate with medium plus acid. A little shorter on the finish than I’d like but that should come with time. Drinking surprisingly well now. 95.

    Perrot-Minot Gevrey-Chambertin 2009

Medium garnet with some orange highlights. Took about an hour in the glass to get going. Big aromas of morello cherry, wood, licorice, brown sugar, baking spice and forest floor. Big and woody on the palate with considerable tannin and medium low acid. Somber and lacking freshness. Still needs time to digest the oak. 92.

    Piper-Heidsieck Champagne Cuvée Rare 2013

Medium yellow in the glass with a surprisingly coarse pearlage. One of the most pure expressions of Champagne I’ve ever tasted. Lemon, pear, brioche and chalk. Electric and taut yet playful and caressing on the palate. Long finish. This has a long life ahead of it. 96.
