    **Colour:** Pinky bronze gold.

    **Aroma:** Bruised apple, cinnamon, watermelon seeds, a hint of beeswax, freshly baked brioche.

    **Palate:** Stewed lemons, beeswax, brioche, honey, baked apple, cinnamon.

    **Mouthfeel:** Balanced and wide open.

    **Finish:** Candied citrus peel, brioche, watermelon, a hint of mint, McVitie’s Digestive.

    **Overall Thoughts:** The colour, woah! I wasn’t expecting that. For whatever reason, I thought it would be a standard Champagne yellow-gold. This really verges on rosé.

    On the nose, bruised apple takes the lead, a wet and juicy kind of smell that is remarkably closely textured to the real thing. It’s got a certain Christmassy feel to it with the cinnamon and apple; beeswax adds a lovely feel to it. This carries on to the palate, which certainly hits the spot when I’ve been jonesing for some ‘heavy’ champagne for a while now. And the watermelon notes are nice. Odd, maybe, but nice. They break up an otherwise conventional wine. Besides, watermelon, that’s a new one in wine for me!

    I don’t have much to say about the mouthfeel. It’s balanced and not an acid bomb; there’s no sense of it being tight-wounded. But then again, that could be down to my choice of glassware.

    For £20/$28 (per half bottle), I can’t complain. It doesn’t really punch above that price point in my opinion. It tastes like classic, perfectly drinkable big-name supermarket champagne that’s heavy on the oxidative notes. I’m not rushing for another bottle but I’d happily gift this to someone who is into their wine. With the colour and the heavier, slightly more oxidised palate, it’s a little too “different” from the big-name champagnes for me to get as a crowd pleaser, but you could probably get away with it anywhere.
