Just wanted to share our DIY kitchen renovation in the southwest of France. The property had been vacant for several years and had significant water damage, so we had to redo everything in the space. The kitchen cabinetry is custom made by me, as we couldn't afford any of the inset kitchen brands we liked. It was my first woodworking project and it was definitely a labour of love, but I think it turned out great. The wall colour is Eddy from Farrow & Ball (colourmatched).

This is beautiful! The color choices work really well together and the wood tones make this feel cozy and functional. And that stove!

Absolutely gorgeous! Wonderful mix of colors and beautifully crafted. Way to go!

  4. Oh and sorry I forgot to mention that the colour for the cabinets is hague blue by farrow and ball (colourmatched)

First woodworking project? You did great! Love it.

You chose cabinets are your first woodworking project? These appear to be from a craftsman! Love everything about this space. Some of the hardware and lighting fixtures look like some of the styles from DeVol. I’d even guess this might be a DeVol kitchen had you not said you did it yourself.

Absolutely stunning. Also located in France! Where are your oven and sink from.

You have my dream kitchen. I absolutely love the deep drawers by the stove and the colors are perfection. You have created a warm and welcoming kitchen. Excellent work, OP.

Kitchen designer here! I’m low key jealous of your first woodworking attempt; those inset doors look shop built. The Hague Blue sings against the Eddy walls, it feels very DeVol meets French farmhouse. Love that you left a good run of counter either side of the Lacanche; it gives the range room to breathe and keeps the sightline clean. The little bead detail on the drawers is chef’s kiss. Only thing I would tweak is adding a brass rail under the upper shelf for mugs or utensils. Otherwise pour yourself a verre de vin, you nailed it 😅

I follow you on YT. It’s been inspiring watching all the work and restoration you’ve done. You both have a great eye. Your kitchen and home are beautiful.

This is such a refreshing change from the kitchen remodeling trends I see on Reddit!! I love the simplicity and the warmth of the wood. Beautifully done. (I also really love SW France. Stayed in the Aude region, hope to return someday.)

  21. Stunning!! Great colors above and below. A real nice harmony going on. Love the pop of metals against the cabinetry, which, by the way, look masterfully done for a first woodworking project. I love the continuous shelf and the use of humble brackets rather than more ornate/architectural brackets. Love the new tile flooring and serene rug under the distressed table and chairs. I’ve never seen rustic look so humble and polished at the same time.

No lie, I think I’m going to have to join instagram and follow you there just to see the rest of your restoration.

Very beautiful! I want to come cook there now lol

It’s impressive you did your own cabinets but having zero uppers will forever read to me as “couldn’t afford enough cabinets.” This idea that minimalism reads more high end is quite the late capitalism scam.

I love watching your videos as we have similar taste (but we’re renovating near Versailles so our stones are different) 😁

Lovely! Just what I would picture a real French kitchen to be, qui, qui!

What happened to that beautiful hanging/swag type lamp in the last photo 🫣

Beautiful! What kind of water repelling measures have you taken for the counter around the sink, if any? We had an undermount sink with butcher block, and used marine waterlox, but after a few years we started seeing some water damage even though we were careful. Would love to do it again in our new house… hoping you have a secret weapon to share!

Do you mind sharing your tiles? I have struggled to find good examples where the tile texture isn’t molded, and these don’t appear to be.

    Amazing!!! So pretty

Do you feel like maybe you will miss the overhead cabinet space?
It just came to mind that you now have less storage space compared to a traditional kitchen
