Not very fun fact: Donner Lake, formerly known as Truckee Lake, is the location where a group of pioneers now known as ‘The Donner Party’ found themselves stranded during the winter of 1846-1847. Tragically, due to extreme hunger and desperation, some members of the group resorted to cannibalising the remains of those who had already succumbed to starvation.
