That high-gloss baby blue is certainly a…choice.

    I actually really like it!

The blue is unexpected but a nice pop of colour in what looks like a very old historical building, without looking too modern and out of place. Those ceiling beams look hand hewn, and the dark floor and furniture along with what looks like a wood fired oven in the background and the older style heaters suggest it is quite an old building, that has been restored. You would be limited in what colours you could put in that room that would brighten it without looking ridiculous and I think this works.

I also think the gloss paint is quite clever; it’s not what you would normally use for large, internal surface areas, but here it works to reflect the light and visually multiply the light sources, which effectively brightens up what would otherwise be a very dark room. Those windows are actually quite small, and the light from those chandeliers isn’t very strong, or you wouldn’t be able to see the flame from the candles on the table. The reflective surfaces provided by the paint work to make what little light there is in that room work harder, and preventing the need for modern touches like downlights, which would be out of place and would not suit the room.
