Heartbreaking when it burnt down on sept 11 – yes, that sept 11
OK so not burnt totally down but it was a very big and horrible fire and would have been front page were it not for the other events

Looks like a shopping mall.

If I recall that elevator is millimeters from being attached. Theoretically everything h&m did to be a retail store can be undone.

This was a nightclub for a while because Melbourne used to be the best place to party in the southern hemisphere.

There is something about a glass roofed room that is so calming. That extra light but still within the security of the interior. Not explained well as it’s a feeling not just a visual.

Hurts me deep inside they turned this beautiful classical building into fast fashion bs

Somewhere in this room is probably the world’s deadliest spider, snake, serial killer, and elephant lol

I remember going in when it was still a post office in the 90’s.

Funny H&M in Perth have also setup in the old grand post office similar to this
Cheap awful crap clothes, in super fancy buildings.
Absolutely Stunning
Looks really similar to the post office in my hometown, Trieste (now Italy, but when it was built it was Austria): https://it.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Trieste-Palazzo-delle-Poste-Interiore-66.jpg
Much darker, but it’s still a post office.
Ex post office
Beautiful building! Heard there’s crazy flooding in Melbourne now, hope this beautiful architecture is not affected.
I got to look around this building when I visited Melbourne in 2015 (it was already an H&M by then). Gorgeous architecture.
Meanwhile, my local post office is literally in a shack.
The Field Museum in Chicago has an extremely similar main hall.
