Open it up to the dinning room with an island, move the fridge to the other end if that wall

You ignoramus, you indimunable buffoon, where’s the before pics?! Besides that it’s nice, if you can work a return or brekkie bar in then you will have 69% more fun when entertaining. I would also consider your lighting because interior design is 10% actual design, 20%color and the other % is lighting and that % is 💯%

I think it looks nice. Given that you’re doing the cabinetry yourself, I’d recommend custom cabinets that go all the way up to the ceiling. Gives you more storage space, and that gap between the top of the cabinets and the ceiling is a grease magnet. I’d also do cabinets on the sink side rather than open shelving. But that’s just personal preference. I’ve never been a huge fan of open shelving in the kitchen.

Based on the layout it looks like the door next to the fridge leads directly into a bedroom?
If it’s in your budget, I’d consider closing off that entry and relocating the door to the hall across from the other bedroom.
