I think the arches in the ceiling are lovely, however I would consider painting them a warm red shade – perhaps to match one of the colours on the blanket over the couch. The room is too monotone and pale for my taste. Some colour on the ceiling would brighteni t right up, and you could really have fun with lighting placement and type. Maybe change the rug too.
Otherwise the room is huge and it looks like it would be quite cool in the summer. Does the door on the right of the photo above the stairs lead to an outside patio or balcony area?
