If you’ve ever read or seen my posts here, you would know I love me some Bloomer Creek and today, I’ll post more about them because why not?

**Bloomer Creek, Skin Fermented Riesling/Gruner Veltliner Pet-Nat:** 60% Riesling, 40% Gruner Veltliner, wild yeast fermented, unfined, and unfiltered, not disgorged, zero SO2. Purchased from Astor Wines & Spirits (my workplace).

Aromas of orange sherbet, vanilla cream, apricot, peaches, morning dew and exotic flora, this is a delectably intriguing nose. On the palate, a fine bead, nice creamy texture, but it is not overly complex. It’s really leaning on those stone fruit flavors from the nose, gingersnap, star anise, vanilla extract, orange blossom, and a bit of tart yet refreshing minerally salinity. The acid here is very complimentary at a medium-high level, it’s such a fun sparkler.

**Bloomer Creek, Barrow Vineyard Riesling:** 100% Riesling, grapes are hand-harvested, vinified with extended skin contact, spontaneously fermented in stainless steel, minimal SO2 at bottling. Purchased from Astor Wines & Spirits (my workplace).

Tantalizing aromas of juicy peaches, fleshy pineapple, petrol, tangerine and a touch of all spice on the nose, classic Riesling character with the influence of skin contact. Medium- body, texturally very light and weaved well together in its composition. On the palate, we’re getting clove, ginger, some honey and bergamot. It also has some subtle funk and slight tea tannins, closer to a more pristine style of skin contact wine with not much time on the skins (not disclosed but it can’t be more than a few weeks) but it’s really great, good complexity for how youthful it feels.

**Bloomer Creek, Cabernet Franc, “Vin d’Ete”:** 100% Cabernet Franc, grapes are hand-harvested, spontaneously fermented in stainless steel, minimal SO2 at bottling. Purchased from Astor Wines & Spirits (my workplace).

My heart swoons here, there are notes of tart black cherry, dark currant, jasmine. It is stark and very aromatically herbal behind the cleanly mineral and electric fruit from the limestone soils. Flavors of black cherry limeade, tart raspberry, hits of green bell pepper. The tannins get very lightened with such high acid, and it is light bodied and chiseled, very much the glou glou style they were going for.

I’m super biased towards these peeps as a New York native but the fact they make some great wine at an affordable price point also helps. Their Pet Nats tend to be super interesting and experimental versus the other natural wineries in NY and this one doesn’t disappoint. The Skin Contact Riesling was also good but I feel like the vineyard’s youth and lack of overly done skin contact make this more tame than I was expecting.

As for the Cabernet Franc, if you’re like me and don’t like the overly pyrazine nature of the grape, don’t fear as this is much more about the taut, kinetic nature of the fruit while having the vegetal undertones support that. I would probably recommend the Pet Nat most here but all of these are great in their own way. 🙂

I had a skin contact riesling pet nat from them a year or two ago that I absolutely loved, I wish I could find it again. It seems like they change their wines quite frequently.
