There are a lot of options. But it comes down to if that is an exterior wall, or if there is an accessable attic above the range. Taking the cabinet above the range out and putting a vent there is the easy part. Where that air goes is the importance/expensive part.

Working vents are overrated. They end up being more problems in the long run. Just leave it as is you won’t know the difference

Do you live in a tropical climate? If so, just open the window.

A hood vent is definitely worth it! I would pull the uppers above the range and go straight up to the attic. You already have a wire for power so it really wouldn’t be that difficult.

Not sure why the distaste for venting…seems like a very normal kitchen thing.

If the microwave has a vent option (almost all offer recirculation) then you can simply run the vent thru the upper cabinet, thru the attic and it vents out thru your roof like a chimney.

If the microwave doesn’t have that option or you simply want a different hood vent, the plan is virtually the same if you keep the cabinet.

If you want the cabinet removed then you’ll use some kind of vent cover and the cabinet trim will simply wrap around both sides.

  6. There are downdraft ovens that vent to the subspace. Ours is by jenn-air. Handles light stuff, but not cast iron searing your steaks

Our set up is very similar: Our microwave has the vent feature, the hose runs through the cabinet, through the ceiling, and then the roof. Works well as it gets steamy on the stove top and our house can get damp.

We considered a wall vent, but at that time the market lacked ones that looked good, had good seals,, and were not noisy.
