A cloudy medium gold in color. Holy funk! The nose was quite intense for me with lots of vegetal-straw-barnyard funk and earthy tones of crushed gravel, with hints of Meyer lemon, white peach, and bruised apple. The palate was quite pleasant though less pronounced comparatively to the intensity of the nose. There was bright citrus with grapefruit and grapefruit zest and blood orange; hints of stone fruit-white peach apricot crept in. Followed by a drizzle of honey, a touch of salinity, and present and pronounced minerality and clean acidity. The skin contact provided just enough of tannin to make the wine seem bigger than it truly was, as the finish was quite short.
Perfect example of a glou glou wine, can definitely drink like a beer or a dry cider. This wine is made from Grüner Veltliner and Welschriesling grown in gravel and limestone soils on 35 year old vines. Grapes are hand harvested and destemmed. The wine is barrel aged, then bottled unfined, unfiltered, and without additional sulfur.

  2. Gut Oggau was the first natural wine I had without realizing what natural wine was over 3 years ago. I felt like I was drinking it straight from the earth but in a good way lol.
