One of Jura’s best quality / price bottles imo. Buronfosse started working with Labet and Ganevat before starting their own production on 4 hectares. Varron 2018 is a 100% Chardonnay, straight out of Rotalier on a clay and limestone soil, and was one of Buronfosse’s starter cuvées.

Classic light reduction on the nose at first, that goes away in a few minutes to reveal a much richer nose of grilled sesame and white flowers with a hint of lactic touch. The wine is very elegant, supple and round : you can feel the 18 months in barriques. You get notes of flint stones, lemon and the lactic touch that remind of some white Bourgognes. A very pleasant texture too, with a ringing acidity that brings a balance to the more buttery Chardonnay notes. The finale is persistent with a wonderful viscosity, and the characteristic bitters of well made wines. At around 25€ this is a great wine for the price, with a real texture and structure.

  3. Cool to see here but the more I see people going to less known producers the more I’m afraid prices will go up and stocks will all be taken 🙁

Oof, just had this at at Four Horsemen in Brooklyn while I was visiting NYC. Knowing it’ll be near impossible to find here in CA. Thanks for the memory reminder.
