We’re building a house and this is the layout we’ve got at the moment for the kitchen. Open to changing basically anything/everything.
Priorities:
1. Island clear – no hob, no sink 2. I’d love a (double?) wall oven – currently not on plan but not sure where to put it 3. I’d prefer to keep stuff like the sink/fridge/cooking appliances in the kitchen and not in the pantry – that will be largely for storing garden produce.
The window is moveable/shrinkable but the space is fairly fixed. The bench underneath was going to be a serving space, but we deleted the servery window to the alfresco so happy to adapt or alter.
Would love any feedback/ideas!!

I think you will find the entry into the kitchen via mudroom/pantry really annoying in a short period of time. Is your mudroom also a laundry? (I’m guessing not because of vinyl floor instead of tiles wet area). Also, the door between pantry and kitchen is 800mm, but mudroom to pantry is 820 mm. 820 is standard door size, and probably the narrowest is go – think about getting through doorways with shopping bags, etc.
Personally, I would take two 600mm ovens over one 900 mm oven. Potentially you could put them on the wall where the door to the pantry is.
I love the idea of an island that’s pure benchtop. Will it have power points?
Where is the microwave going? And will there be plumbing available to the fridge?

I increased the clearances around my island to 4′ from island to counter from my builders original plan. I am happy everyday I did so. It’s a god send anytime you have more than just yourself in the kitchen. I can have the oven and dishwasher doors open and it’s still easy to move around with multiple people. If you can do it I would suggest it.

Do you have a dedicated trash and recycling drawer?

I would suggest a dedicated trash/recycling as close to the sink as possible.
If the mudroom DOES have washer/dryer, you might consider soundproofing the wall between the mudroom and kitchen. People spend a lot of time in the kitchen and the sound of a running washer/dryer might start to annoy you quickly.
Make sure to put electrical outlets on the backsplash in the pantry. You might want to make a coffee station in that area. Make sure all outlets in kitchen/pantry are 20amp.
I prefer single basin sinks. Much easier to wash large pots/pans. You might consider this over the double basin sink.
Utilize the corner space between the sink wall and stove wall with a lazy susan.
Window above the kitchen sink is a good location. People spend a lot of time at the sink and the window makes the time spent there more appealing.
Consider where you will be putting your microwave. If you use one a lot, counter level is best.
Other alternatives are drawer style microwaves, but I find these are a nuisance (must bend over to use, more prone to breaking since the drawer is mechanical).
Door to pantry should be 36” minimum (915mm).
If you have central vac, consider putting a vac sweep in the toe kick.
On the breakfast bar side of the island, consider a flush toe kick. This is often called a furniture finish toe kick. Looks much nicer, and since you do not stand at that area to work, you do not require the recessed toe kick. I would continue this flush toe kick on the two short sides of the island as well.
I would consider shrinking the island on the sink side to give you minimum 1080mm (42”) walking space between the island the sink. With more than 1 person working in the kitchen, you will be happy you made the space.
