Buying this house… its all dark wood paneling and dark cabinets.

I need help/ideas to paint this mauve kitchen & cabinets please. I’m a 55 yr old guy with no clue.

I’d do white upper cabinets and a dark/rich gray paint for the bottom cabinets.

GC here. It’s tough to get a like new finish. No joke. In my opinion if you haven’t done it before, hire someone. It requires a hvlp sprayer, the correct primer for whatever your cabinets clear coat is, and skill.

Personally I would go with white cabinetry and very neutral back splash and an earth wall color. As for for counter tops go with a grey or earth tone pattern and a mostly off white or alabaster white base. If you have a lot of windows it will pop just right.

White and very dark blue! Or even black

Sherwin Williams has a service to help you pick a paint scheme and they give you a coupon towards purchase. It’s free and the woman I had was excellent. I showed her a piece of tile and a Pinterest photo and she picked the theme for my entire rental. The colors go so well.

Paint your cabinets, but make sure to clean and prep correctly. Gray and navy blue will be dated soon.

My kitchen looked like this. I did yellow top cabinets with white doors. White base cabinets with yellow doors. Blue solid surface counters with integral sink. The bright colors will really make it fell bigger

Edit: I had a wood worker sand and plane my doors and cut decorative lines in them. I sanded down the cabinets then primed and painted everything

I’ve been seeing sage as a cabinet color recently and it looks so stunning.

Get the Houzz app and you can look at thousands of kitchen pictures in every imaginable color. Also you can order replacement cabinet doors without replacing the whole cabinets.

I’ll be the minority opinion and say don’t paint it. I think it’s a pretty nice color (wood isn’t trendy right now but it’s timeless), and the dark trim lines will get lost when you paint. It’s certainly a more vintage look, but unless they’re really cheap or worn in ways I can’t tell from this picture, these are cabinets worth keeping.

Edit: As far as how to improve the space otherwise, it needs better lighting. If it’s a small kitchen I’d go flush mount lighting instead of recessed because it’ll brighten the corners more and help it feel less like a cave, and under cabinet lighting would help a lot. Consider a whiteish quartz countertop and light colored backsplash.

Genuinely love the vintage vibes with the cabinetry. I would leave them! Maybe change out the hardware for something a little more modern and go with a dark countertop, and a dark Forrest green backsplash.

    Lean into it!

I agree with the folks saying green. I’d go a medium-light green

Dude. I’m pretty sure those cabinets are original from the 1970s if not earlier. The most I would do to them is thoroughly clean then reseal them. These cabinets aren’t the cheap crap we put in new homes now. These were the cheap crap they put in new homes back then, but they are made with real wood, much better than the composite board we use now, so they will last forever.

Kitchen cabinets are among the most touched parts of your house. If you try to repaint them, the paint will soon wear off, unless you are ready to commit to the time and expense of doing this job right, which would probably cost more than just replacing the cabinets.

But if you must repaint them… titanium white with bright yellow trim.
