Decided to highlight wines from Mexico (specifically Baja region) at my most recent event, here’s the line up left to right:
Bichi – Gordo Guapo (Granacha). delicious blackberries that evolve into smokey, leather & tobacco as it warms up.
Piel de Luna (Rose, mission & alicante bouche). one of the most unique and interesting rose’s I’ve had in a LONG time. Varnish-y on the nose, which eventually evolves into strong dried flowers as it opens. Tastes like watermelon rind, salt and then BBQ smoke. not unlike mezcal actually! A nice surprise for adventurous drinkers.
Alximia Sauv Blanc Pet Nat. …. how do I put this? All of the Nat, none of the Pet! When I first drank this it had sparks of a pet nat but none of the fizz. I don’t know how to explain it but it was incredible. Very light on the bubbles, almost flat but still had a fresh crispness to it. Very bright pineapple and guava flavors. Softened by the neutral oak. SUPER interesting sauv blanc for such a warm region. Almost like a high elevation or coastal white. This one was a crowd favorite.
