Never disappointed by Matassa and it’s slowly becoming my favorite producer from the south for the amazing quality, diversity and value from his wines. This cuvée was originally made for the eponymous Spanish Bar Brutal in Barcelona.
The cuvée is made from 100% Macabeu from 70 to a 100 years old vines. Manual harvest, whole cluster fermentation with indigenous yeast and macerated on the skins for almost a month. It’s aged in neutral 600 litres Demi-muids. Nothing added during the whole process.
I let it decant for an hour+. There was a lot of complexity on the nose, at first it was more floral and herbs oriented and then you felt orange zest, apricot and lots of grapefruit slowly becoming more fruit forward towards the end of the bottle. It was pure juice, medium bodied with a good tannic structure that balanced the freshness and the incredible drinkability (10%!). This is a very young wine that is ready to drink and offer lots of pleasure.
I strongly recommend this orange wine if you find it for a good price. I would drink in the summer preferably though.

Not sure where you’re located by where I am, I would hardly call Matassa “value” they’re typically always $50+ USD
