    🍷 Matassa Tattouine 2021:
🍇 90% Grenache Gris & 10% Grenache Noir fermented and aged together, macerated for three weeks on the skins.
From 100+ years old vines on red schist soil (thus the name of the cuvée).
After some air it displayed aromas of ripe cherry fruit, strawberry, red currant, cola and some earthy notes; more fruit-forward. On the palate it was a pure and concentrated strawberries and cherries juice with a good freshness and a medium finish. It was light-bodied with slightly green tannins, as if you were licking a bit of chalk, that played in tandem with the drinkability (11,5% abv).

    🍷 Matassa El Carner 2020:
    🍇 60% Grenache Gris & 40% Macabeu.
Macerated for 30 days in whole bunches in amphorae and aged for 6 months in amphorae on the lees. Drank slightly chilled.
Very similar to the Tattouine with the same drinkability (10% abv) and freshness again. Similar aromas of red fruit but with some apricot, nectarine and some herbal touches. Fruit bomb on the palate, light-bodied but less tannic and more integrated.

To be honest I enjoyed the Tattouine much more, it felt like it had more character with that strong tannic structure and more concentration that accompanied that fresh and light juice. I don’t know why I’m drinking summer wines in winter but heh they were really good with a movie.

I feel the 2020 El Carner just didn’t have the same punch and electricity that the previous 2 years had. Good, but those 2018-2019 were game changers
