I’m surprised there’s a modern woodburner in there. This building must be listed, probably Grade A which means there’s almost nothing you can do to change it.

I’d prolly keep knocking my head on those door frames

This is stunning.

It’s always amazing to me the really old stuff other countries have. I can’t imagine living in a building this old, or having to keep it up. I don’t even know what’s a big problem or not- everything is cattywumpus, but I guess that’s to be expected in a home that old?

What is meant by “may have belonged to”?

The light fittings look like originals

Looks very home counties.
Snark aside, living in a place like this must be a nightmare. I used to know a family that lived in a grade listed house, their grandma kept saying that should get people in to fix things however they wanted and then when the assessors came by, just say ‘my, hasn’t that kept well!”

My house is older and we have improved and modernised it with the blessing of the conservation and listings people because we have saved a historic building and shown a complete difference between old and new. You just can’t do it on the cheap that’s all.

Ditchling is a nice village. A number of artists live there and the surrounding countryside is like something out of a dream of Avalon. Good pubs too

Tudor houses are really impressive and look great but they are unbearably dark inside

Tudor Period was over by the 16th century, finishing in 1603 with the death of Elizabeth the first

Just moved into a place like this…..that chandelier is probably about 4ft off the ground….I had to saw off my feet just to get around. No damp course, no foundation…the house is built on soil…..weeds come up through the flagstone floor….upstairs is even more interesting, move around like the Hunchback of Notre Dame or become a victim of the low beams….but everyone who sees it says the same…”oh my heavens, what a charming house….so full of character!”

‘divorced, beheaded, died, divorced, beheaded, survived.’
The last one outlived him.
If she was number 4, her fate was… divorce!
