So I got given two bottles of this Yquem 1970 from my grandpas cellar. The cork of this bottle was already quit deep in the neck and one day decided to drop in. I didn’t have high hopes for it anyway since it already showed signes of leakage, but I tasted it anyways. The first couple sips were a bit shit. On the nose it was that of raisins and tropical fruits, but after tasting it there was this bitter aftertaste that ruined the wine completely. But since it’s Yquem I didn’t wanna throw it down the drain immediately and first let my friends have a couple sips too. So I put it back in the fridge and I took it out a couple days later to let my friends have a taste. Well it turns out the whole bitter aftertaste was gone and all that was left is this beautiful wine that smelled like the most beautiful combination of tropical fruits and baked good and tasted like a tarte tatin made with mango and pineapple but with just the right amount of acidity to keep coming back. I dunno how this is possible, but I can’t wait to see how the other bottle of Yquem will be. The other one looks to be in amazing condition.
