Keep the brass! That faux bamboo and rattan look is a total classic. The brass provides a much-needed contrast against the black wood bed and bookcase. If you paint the hardware black, the box will just blend into the furniture and lose all its personality. Brass and black is a high-end, timeless combo.
Also, if you do decide to go black, just be careful with paint. Brass-plated hardware is notorious for chipping if you dont use a high-quality self-etching primer first.
