Just bought a new house and am feeling a bit overwhelmed with where to start designing our living room. We tend to prefer mid century to post modern with lots of bright art.

Currently considering a low curved boucle couch in a neutral tone and then bringing color with art, rug and accent pieces but would love to hear other ideas!

Added in a bonus pic of the kitchen as well are considering tying in some of the colors from the tile.

Prioritize the beams. Look into stripping them or staining them wood like.

Hey, I just want to say that designing a home takes a long time. And IMO: the slower you go, the prettier the end result will be, because your touches will be more personal.

Create some vision boards for now. It helps to look up similar spaces and see what others came up with. Keep your eye out for pieces that speak to you. A cool painting or fun rug might give you the fuel to start. This is a gorgeous home! You don’t have to rush anything.

How about considering an interior designer? I’m not sure where you live yet in my experience it’s a great experience and worth the money spent.

Try using Google Gemini AI upload your pictures into it and have it help you design it. It’ll give you some great ideas.

Honestly, the only thing missing to me is greenery. A few BIG plants would really make the space. A 15′ Benjamin ficus along the back wall, a vine down the bookshelf, and another substantial plant by the seating would play with the height of the room and add some color

Sit in this for a bit. Do some small esthetic tweaks )adding plants, art, cushions, throw rugs). Wait until you get a full feel for the place before making any major decision.
    It’s beautiful, congrats!

It’s a good problem to have. The space is amazing. Don’t feel the need to do it all at once. Just start with the space you love the most. And it’s not a race to the end. I still do minor tweaks all the time.

Honestly, a slow and considered approach would work best here, tackling one room or one aspect at a time. Especially considering how open everything is, scale will be even more important and make/break the space.
