hi!! first time poster – my husband and I just bought a new house at the beach and have been working on decorating. I'm using a mixture of repurposed pieces from our last (non-coastal) home (the table and ottomans), but trying to pivot towards a much more coastal chic look. the rest of our house has a lot of light greens, light blues, and creams. I'm very much going for a Serena and Lily inspired look!

I've already tried multiple lamps and none of them looked good. I've also tried to get some ideas from Chat GPT, but they were all not quite what I was looking for. I figured you all may have some better ideas!!

as a side note, would love some suggestions on the ottomans. should I leave them as is? I ordered some white covers from Amazon and they looked awful, so I guess that's out of the question for now. we're in the midst of wedding planning so I don't have a ton of extra spending money for new ottomans right now (why are they so overpriced???).

TIA!!! 🙂

It’s difficult to tell if they are green or gray. The ottomans are fine but why are they placed under the narrow console table? I like your wall art; it’s spaced evenly. I don’t know how much room you have to the left of the table. You can never go wrong with a plant or tree but we need to see a larger picture of the wall.

The asymmetry when one side is styled and the other is bare is one of those things that just nags at you. For a coastal chic look in that color palette, a few ideas for the left side:

    – A tall woven seagrass floor vase with some dried pampas grass or coastal branches – adds height without a lamp, totally in that Serena & Lily zone
    – A small wooden pedestal or riser with a simple white ceramic vessel on top, or even a chunk of driftwood if you want to lean further into the beach theme
    – A piece of art propped against the wall (vs. hung) can look really collected and intentional – a coastal print in your green/blue/cream palette would work perfectly there

For the ottomans – honestly the woven texture reads pretty neutral and could end up working once the rest comes together. I’d wait before changing them. If they feel off later, a thin jute or seagrass tray laid across the pair can tie them in without recovering anything.

What’s the approximate wall height there? Helps to know if you have room for something tall or if a lower horizontal arrangement makes more sense.

Get a bowl – an opaque one with high sides that you can use as a drop zone for keys and sunglasses. It’s the entrance way so it needs to be functional as well as stylish.

Nothing, I’d push the case and books together just left of center and call it good.
