Random question but I feel like this is a universal problem…

What do you do with clothes that are not clean enough to go back into the closet, but also not dirty enough to wash yet?

For me it’s things like pants or outerwear… I’ve worn them outside, so I don’t want to mix them with clean clothes, but washing them after every wear feels wrong (and probably destroys them faster).

Right now they just… end up on a chair…

I’m thinking of getting some kind of open rack or dedicated space so they can “breathe” during the week, but curious how everyone else deals with this.

Do you have a system that actually works? Any setup or product you’d recommend?

Years ago, when I was first married, my husband would put all those “intermediate” clothes in a pile on the floor. We went and got a rather nice coat rack – and it really worked quite well.

if they’re clean enough to wear again, they’re clean enough to go back in the closet. the exception is if i know I’m just going to be a potato the next day and wear the same dirty clothes, they go on the floor lol

I have an over-the-door row of coat hooks that I put on my closet door. I hang up clothes on the hooks at night. If they are still there a week later, I throw them in the wash…most of the time

    Blanket ladder.

Or a particular, defined spot in the closet, depending.

I hang them inside out in the closet.

We’ve actually recently dedicated a drawer each in the dresser for this purpose. Works fantastic, keeps the room so clean!

I have a bin inside of my closet for these intermediaries.
