Turley, Juvenile Vineyard, Zinfandel, 2016, 13.5% abv.
Nose: quite maritime with scallops, shrimp shells, good amount of iron but not overwhelming, chalk, dusty, hint of strawberry and cherry jam. What happened? It's not as intense as the 2021. Is it age?
Palate: medium body, initially a un-tart berry jam, moves to a mid palate that shows a somewhat salty berry juice, back palate shows more iron and more berry flesh. Again, what happened?! This bottle is quite boring.
Finish: medium, dry as expected, iron flakes, hint of dried red fruit.
Vernacular: nose is more maritime than primary. Medium body, dry, low acidity, decent minerality, no alcohol. Medium finish reflecting the general palate.
Wow, huge disappointment. Could be a storage issue as that shop is known to have storage issues on older bottles. But I keep falling for tricks. Wine Spectator gave this a 90 in 2018. Got this for KRW₩54K, or about USD$38, in Busan, South Korea.
Grade: C+
